I have several 'new arrivals' from Eastern Europe in my Year 6 class and suspect two may have special needs. It's hard to tell when their English is slight, and our EAL service thinks it's just a case of waiting for language skills to catch up. I'm not so sure - are there any tests that would help? |

A school I'm working with had a challenging Annual Review for a pupil in Reception with global developmental delay. The head wishes the pupil to go to Specialist Provision (a place is available) but the parents are adamant that the pupil should remain. The SENCO has been advocating inclusion but the head feels the pupil is taking up too much time and resources (he is on P scale 3/4 and has 20 hours (soon to be 30) 1:1 time on the statement). The SEN governor has attended very few governors' meetings and the SENCO feels she doesn't understand the responsibilities regarding inclusive schooling. What can be done to support the SENCO? |
