Question My 15-year-old daughter has communication difficulties and is about to be assessed by Social Services for her post-school provision. We've been told that she should not be supported by the teachers or support staff she knows, to make it an 'independent' assessment. Is this right? Can we appeal against this?
  P. Dobson, Parent, Kendal
Question My son has limited vision, so I'm wondering if an e-book such as the Kindle would be useful. He's 15, so exams are not far away. Has anyone had any experience using e-books in this way?
  Jill Evans, Parent, Harrogate
Question My daughter attends a mainstream school in Year 11 and has a Statement for medical reasons (chronic illness). Because the LA does not have sixth form provision within its schools, when she leaves school next year and goes to college (in the same LA!) she will no longer receive daily transport because her Statement will have ended. To me this seems unfair and discriminatory - she will find it almost impossible to independently get to and from college and cope with the fatigue caused by having to make her own way. Is there anything I can do?
  Ben, Parent, South-east
Question My daughter is in Year 5, good at all literacy work but seriously hopeless at maths. When we asked how she could be helped, her teacher said there was nothing that could be done about it. Is this right?
  Mandy Charles, Parent, Liverpool
Question I have heard about a Home Access scheme to provide IT equipment for pupils with special needs. Is this scheme means tested? I am a single parent and get family income supplement, so would I qualify?
  Trina Jameson, Parent, London
